Steps to perform the following tasks are included in this page:

Identifying Yourself as a Court User or a PACER User

As a court reporter, court recorder, or court reporter supervisor, you may be connected to the Court's DCN. This means that you are using a computer that is connected to the Court's network. Depending on what you need to do in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, you must identify yourself as a Court or PACER user.

  1. Open a new browser window and navigate to https://ecf.ca9.uscourts.gov/CMECFHelpDeskUtility.html.
    Tip: We strongly suggest you bookmark this page because you will need to return to it in the future.
  2. Click the Court User button to identify yourself as a Court user.
    Confirm that the system is now identifying you as a Court user. The text below the buttons should say
    Current settings: Court User - JENIE ID required
    -or-
    Click the PACER User button to identify yourself as an external (PACER) user.
    Confirm that the system is now identifying you as a PACER user. The text below the buttons should say
    Current settings: PACER User - CSO ID required

Register for Electronic Filing in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals

  1. If you are connected to the DCN, identify yourself as a PACER user. See Identifying Yourself as a Court User or a PACER User above.
  2. Do one of the following:
  3. Using your personal upgraded PACER account, log in to PACER to request e-filing access for the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals CM/ECF.
    1. Go to Manage My Account at https://pacer.psc.uscourts.gov/pscof/login.xhtml.
    2. Use your personal PACER username and password to log in.
    3. Click the Maintenance tab, then click the Non-Attorney E-File Registration link.
    4. From the Court Type drop-down list, select U.S. Appellate Courts.
    5. From the Court drop-down list, select U.S. COURT OF APPEALS, NINTH CIRCUIT.
    6. From the Role in Court drop-down list, select Court Reporter.
    7. Complete the rest of the form and submit your registration request.
  4. Wait for an email from PACER that informs you that your registration has been processed by the Court.
  5. If you are connected to the DCN and you need to identify yourself as a Court user, do so now. See Identifying Yourself as a Court User or a PACER User above.

Filing Electronically in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals

  1. If you are connected to the DCN, identify yourself as a PACER user. See Identifying Yourself as a Court User or a PACER User above.
  2. Navigate to https://ecf.ca9.uscourts.gov/n/AttorneyFiling/login.jsf to log into the Ninth Circuit NextGen CM/ECF using your upgraded PACER account.
  3. Complete your filing.
  4. If you are connected to the DCN and you need to identify yourself as a Court user, do so now. See Identifying Yourself as a Court User or a PACER User above.

Accessing Documents from a Notice of Docket Activity (NDA) from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals

  1. Connect to the DCN and identify yourself as a Court user. See Identifying Yourself as a Court User or a PACER User above.
  2. In your email program, open the notice of docket activity (NDA) from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal and click the Document(s) link.
    Note: If the notice does not have a Document(s) link, no documents are attached to the entry.
  3. At the JENIE login page, log in using your JENIE credentials to access the PDF file(s) attached to the filing.
